'Kaulupono' includes 14 tracks, 5 of which are mele hou by young haku mele. Like previous albums, it's an eclectic cd, mostly Traditional Hawaiian, but features other genres of music like hapa haole, contemporary Hawaiian, and English. An `ukulele instrumental is also included.
Guest artists include: Nina Keali`iwahamana, Keali`i Reichel, Makana, Aaron Sala, Greg Sardinha, John Cruz , & Kata Maduli.
Opening the CD, you will hear the sounds captured during the sunrise at Cape Kumukahi, along with an oli, written and performed by Chad Takatsugi. Finishing off the CD you hear the sounds of the sunset, captured at Polihale Beach on the island of Kauai.

Released in June of 2000, the debut CD from `Ale`a earned 9 Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominations. Categories it won in were,

Kaulupono
'The word 'Kaulupono' means "to grow in a way that is both progressive and still respectful to those who have paved the way before us". A fitting title, as alot of research went into this 3rd project. The group made a spiritual trip to Cape Kumukahi to experience the sunrise, and to Polihale Beach on the island of Kauai to view the sun set over Ni`ihau and Lehua. They recorded those moments and included them on this CD.
